CALEB McCULLOUGH Courier Des Moines Bureau DES MOINES — Iowa voters need to reject partisan politics and gather around a unifying message, Democrat Mike Franken told a crowd Monday at the Iowa State Fair.Franken, who's seeking to topple longtime Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley in the November election for  U.S. Senate, said he wanted Iowans to put 'country over party' and 'people over politics,' and rejuvenate the state's socially progressive roots. He noted Iowa was among the first states to legalize same-sex marriage and implement environmentally conscious agriculture practices, and Iowa universities were among the first to allow women in graduate school.
